The Museum of Decorative Arts (MAD) tells the intimate story of the 18th century to the present day through 470 works: paintings, photographs, decorative arts, everyday objects and design.
An exhibition that will take you on a journey to the heart of the intimate from multiple and sometimes unexpected angles and through different locations, including the bathroom, toilets, and bedrooms. You'll be amused to discover night vases from the Chantilly and Sèvres factories, vanity tables with water reservoirs, and soap dishes. The toilet is also an intimate and trendy space under the eye of Nan Goldin.
The sublime and inventive scenography is by architect Italo Rota, who passed away in Italy last April. Rota notably contributed to the transformation of the Gare d'Orsay into a museum, the renovation of the Museum of Modern Art at the Centre Pompidou, the new rooms of the French school in the Cour Carrée du Louvre, the lighting of Notre-Dame Cathedral and along the Seine, and the renovation of the center of Nantes.
The exhibition closes on March 30th. You still have time to get there if you haven't already.
